This past Saturday the Senator and I were exiting our apartment home in route to our vehicle. We had planned to go the Great Falls National Park. Read more about our trip here. Sitting on the step of our building was a gentleman. He was upset. Of course, guess who was quick to strike up a convo with the man? the Senator. I of course wasn't interested. Later the Senator told me that our apartment homes officials were sending notices stating residents had to vacate due to a planned renovation. I quickly and confidently replied, "that's crazy. their not going to throw away money like that". Well... apparently, they are. Today as I was leaving our apartment to go to my 11 o'clock meeting a was welcomed with this
Dear Resident,
"... the transformation of our community will begin this fall with approximately 100 apartments. ... The next phase of construction will likely begin in May. It is possible that we will send notice tothe remainder of the community to vacate by April 30, 2011 [7 months from now] ..."
The letter goes on to state that they won't be charging us anything for damages done to the apartment and they will prorate rent for those residents that have to vacate. They gave us a FAQ letter to help answer any questions we may have. Some FAQ
Where can I go? We aren't recommending where to go, but we are in the process of contacting communities in the area to develop a special stremlined relocation program that likely will include reduced application fees and security deposits and short lease terms. What if I can't find a place to move? Continuing to live in your apartment is NOT an option as all central systems including utilities and heat/air conditioning will be disconnected. Can I just move into a new apartment [in the same community]? Unfortunately not. The second phase of construction will require the remaining apartments in the community to be vacated. It is likely that these will be vacated prior to the completion of the new apartments.
They were oh-so-kind as to give us a "Notice to Vacate", just in case we wanted to go any day now. I feel some type of way, I think.... but notsomuch anymore since I've got GOOD NEWS

Something to break up all this text
Since I've returned from Alaska, I hit the ground running. My plan was to look for jobs and contracts. Which ever came first I would still pursue the other on the side. Today after lunch with the Senator I got a call from a company who had received my resume. We had a phone interview, talked about my goals as a VA, where I'm looking to be in the next 3-5 years, and yes, what time I could meet with the owner and HR tomorrow. I'm astatic (sp?). Right now, instead of brushing up on the Excel formulas and preparing my presentation on why it's better to contract me rather than employ me, I'm blogging.
Wish me luck!
