Yesterday was the day my mom's bff was to leave Alaska. So in honor of her departure and all the hard work she put in while she was here, I planned a day trip for the four of us. Our first stop was the Palmer Visitor Center and Museum in Palmer, AK. It's a quaint little town, filled with kind people and some very interesting history. So, back in the 1920's FDR moved a select number of families to this town in hopes to create a new life for them (my interpretation, not actual history). Apparently they were of some other nationality (still unclear but of darker skin) because the town was named after the only caucasian gentleman, {insert first name here}Palmer who was also the town's postmaster. The museum was a little log cabin and inside we found things like this
I was just overcome with the culture and found myself surrendering to the amateur photographer inside me. I love family photos and when I saw this, I just knew I had to capture it.
On Thursday unto Friday next week mom, my aunt M, and myself are planning to visit Fairbanks, AK. This was just decided today as we were driving back from what was supposed to be time alone for me (long story). Mom has friends up there and we're also going to visit the North Pole. Yes. The actual North Pole. I'm excited. I'll be doing 95% of the driving and that's okay with me.
In other unrelated news: Tomorrow will complete the first week of my Couch-to-5k fitness plan (a.k.a. Project Get Pregnant). I'll have to get up on time in order to fit in the meandering around and complaining I do before I get myself together and run. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. So far, I'm not impressed. But it's only the first week.
