I don't get it....

eariler this AM i was on the phone with K, my MIL. She mentioned she was going to make some bread pudding for her hubby, V, ym step-MIL. He's been kind of down lately. She says she just found out that S, my newlywed SIL isn't coming home for the holidays. Here goes the convo:

MIL - "S isn't coming home for the Holiday"

Me - "oh, okay"

MIL - "no, it's not okay"

Me - "why not?"

MIL - "it's not okay! Think of F (SIL's divorced mother), she doesn't have anyone"

Me - "oh" (with confused look on face)

I don't get it... I envy the freedom in other marriages. I'm not sure what to do about the lack of mine. the Senator and I have not been any place EVER alone... every decision we make isn't made to create less drama in our family... I feel smothered... :(

personally, it's not S's responsibility to entertain her mother over the holiday's she's got a man now, period. The bible says "leave and cleave"... that looks pretty "leave and cleave-ish" to me!
