pa: where do you work?
me: medical staff
pa: are you interested in advancing your career?
me: what did you have in mind
pa: we've got this new neuroscience program that we've just started and we need someone to come in a run the practice
me: you mean like admin work,
pa: i mean like, run it so we can do our jobs! everything from in-patient/out-patient issues, covering phones, everything!
me: okay
pa: call dr. B at this number, and do it today, i wouldn't wait if i were you. tell him i recommended you
me: okay
pretty cool huh? it was so bizarre... in the one year and four or five months i have worked there i have only seen this pa in passing, we've lad all of two conversations with one another. one about donuts and the other about his yellow car. anyhoo, i get back to my desk and it's way too crowded to make such an important call. in the midst of me considering stepping away, i remember that dr. B is supposed to be at the holiday luncheon this afternoon. so i plot to corner him somehow without being too obvious.... we get to the luncheon and i corner him by the beverage table and tell him of how i was approached by one of his pa's about the admin position. well, he's elated! [i've got a really bad belly ache right now] anyway, he asks me what my plans are for life and i go into my whole story about how i want to save the world through public health, he's totally excited and asks if i am able to meet after the luncheon. i say yes, we agree 3:30 and that's that.
3:30 tuesday: not knowing what to expect, i bring a note pad and pen to the meeting. assuming i'll be taking notes and no wanting to look, well... stupid. he begins by telling me how... wait gotta turn the senator over. .. okay, back. he begins by telling about the program and his quest to save the world through neuroscience and modern technology.. i fall in love with all of his ideas and we mesh. at the end he e-mails the director of joint and spine, his right hand woman, v.c. and tells her she needs to speak with me asap regarding the admin support.
10:00 wednesday: a week and a half before this day i requested a meeting with my supervisor in hopes of gaining more responsibility. i've prepared a proposal but wanted more specific info before submitting it to her. well the meeting went well, i totally sold her on my idea to take the office virtual and she even gave me permission to speak with the coordinators/administrators who head the other divisions of the office.
11:30-12:00 thursday: i meet with v.c. to discuss the admin position for the new neuroscience program. it goes very well, and i leave under the impression that if she could get me started the next day (friday, today) she would. instead i send her a copy of my job description and she begins processing the details.
so unofficially, i've got a new job. nothing on paper yet, but certainly a shew in (is that how you spell that?).
so what's the big deal? i get an e-mail from dr. B today saying how excited he is and as soon as he gets the go ahead, he'll begin showing me some of the technology that i'll be using. then he says those words i didn't want to hear, but knew i would hear at some point. "make sure you have talked with j about your thoughts". j is my supervisor who when i first started hated me... we have grown to like one another on a professional level, but anything beyond that is strained and i would not be out of order to suspect she would try and sabotage my efforts to move up the professional ladder. with much prayer and counseling from my MIL who is and was a supervisor, she instructs to send j an e-mail labeling it urgent that i speak with her. so i do and she also tells me to send one to dr. B asking that i be the one my supervisor hears the news from, not anyone else, which i also do...
and so, my fate has been sealed and i am so grateful to be chosen for such a time as this. God is so great for blessing me and showing me favor.
p.s. did i mention a significant raise and working from home?!
